How to calculate GST

Adding GST to a price before GST

To add GST, multiply the price before GST by the GST rate and add the GST amount to the original price.

Example: ₹1,000 before GST at 18% becomes ₹1,180 after GST. The GST amount is ₹180.

Removing GST from a price after GST

To remove GST from a GST-inclusive price, divide the final price by 1 plus the GST rate.

Example: ₹1,180 after GST at 18% equals ₹1,000 before GST. The GST amount is ₹180.

To remove 18% GST from a GST-inclusive price, do not subtract 18% directly from the final price. Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1.18.

What is GST?

GST, or Goods and Services Tax, is an indirect tax applied to the supply of many goods and services in India. Businesses usually collect GST from customers and report it to the tax authorities. The final amount depends on the price before tax and the GST rate that applies to the specific goods or services.
